History:
At the end of 1936, Casals fled Franco’s Spain and found refuge in the small town of Prades at the foot of Mount Canigou. He refused all invitations to play or conduct in protest against Franco’s dictatorship and led a solitary and very modest existence. In 1950, he broke his silence to take part in the commemorations of the bicentenary of Bach’s death in Prades.
