History (source Wikipedia):
The Europa is a currency created in 1928 by Joseph Archer, mining engineer and mayor of Cizely in Nièvre, and promoted by Philibert Besson, deputy of Haute-Loire and mayor of Vorey, both founders of the European federation movement, not to be confused with the European federalist movement. The federation, according to Archer, does not unite states, but directly individuals and peoples within a scientifically organized system of association.
This currency never circulated officially, but it was used in Nièvre as a currency of exchange within the “Federal Republic of Cizely”.
Marked by the First World War, its designers ardently believed that peace and friendship between peoples would come from a common currency for the countries of Europe.
