History of the liner:
The Liberté was first a German transatlantic liner named Europa launched in 1930. After the Second World War, it was sold to the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique to replace the loss of the Normandie. It became the Liberté and was put back into service in 1950. In 1961, it was disarmed at Le Havre due to the imminent arrival of the France.
