Obverse:
High relief of the Departure of the Volunteers of 1792, called ” La Marseillaise ” (1835) by François Rude . This sculpture is located on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Place Charles de Gaulle. The work represents in an allegorical manner the commitment of the national volunteers against the armies of the first Coalition in 1792. The volunteers are represented in the antique manner and dominated by a winged figure, an allegory of victory, which exhorts them to fight. In the center, at the bottom, a Greek warrior and his young ephebe whose visual will be used by the Bank of France for the 5 franc Violet note.
