Obverse:
High relief of the Departure of the volunteers in 1792, known as “ La Marseillaise ” (1835) by François Rude. This sculpture is located on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Place Charles de Gaulle. The work allegorically represents the engagement of national volunteers against the armies of the first Coalition in 1792. The volunteers are represented in the ancient manner and dominated by a winged figure, an allegory of victory, who exhorts them to fight. In the center, at the bottom, a Greek warrior and his young ephebe whose visual will be used by the Bank of France for the 5 franc Violet note.
